One of the important concerns for Senior Citizens is quick medical attention in cases of emergency. It forms an item in the checklist of almost everyone who bought into The Virtuoso. At the sales stage, we were given to believe that the Manipal Hospital at Varathur Road (Whitefield) is the nearest one. It’s not. It is 40+ mins away. Others were not “listed” by the Sales Team of CPC.
On moving into The Virtuoso, the author and a Sr. Doctor (Resident) went on a recce and found that the East Point Hospital (location link here) is indeed just 12 minutes away. The short road is bad in patches but has negligible traffic. At night it would probably be totally free, though it winds around villages enroute.
The route via the main roads (OMR or Old Madras road) is fraught with impossible traffic jams as it crosses two village “cross roads” with big lorry, bus and two wheeler traffic. We took that road on a normal weekday 9 am and it took 2+ hours to reach the hospital. On returning via the shorter village road, we reached back Virtuoso in 12 mins!
Now about this hospital itself.
It is a spanking new Hospital, apparently built primarily as a teaching hospital for the attached Medical College. Well maintained and friendly reception staff. The wide range of services (specialities) with impressive names of specialists is a breath of fresh air in this semi-urban setting. It is bound to make valuable contributions to the surrounding villages, in one of which we at Virtuoso live!
The hospital has all the necessary equipment and a Cath-Lab is being set up as we go to press. On the scoreboard of specialities and equipment, the hospital compares to any other in urban Bangalore. With more being added every month, as it grows in scope and depth. Score: A+
However they have failed to use IT for administration, leading to extreme inefficiencies for patients. The wait for the X-Ray report was an excrutiating 3 hours on the day the author went for a backache consultation. Throw a lunch break in between for the doctors, it became a full day outing, when a good IT System would have made it in 2 hours flat from start to finish. Score: F
We cannot and should not score the proficiencies of the doctors as we are incompetent to do so. However we can certainly say they are very friendly and cooperative! As patients, we can hope that they streamline their IT Systems, including in their chaotic pharmacy!
